Ike - 5 year stats

Ike went for his check-up this year and he has grown and 3.5 inches and 4.5 lbs since last year!  He is really going through a growth spurt right now and easily eating twice as much food in a day as he did a month ago.  The other morning he asked for a 3rd piece of french toast for breakfast!

• 45 inches (75th percentile)
• 42 lbs  (60th percentile)

He is doing great and getting geared up to start Kindergarten next year.  He will be staying at MSYC for their full-day K program.  The option for full day for him just felt like a natural step - some of his friends will move onto public school but he will see them again soon enough in 1st grade.    He is soaking everything in and we now have to watch what we say around him.  He asks a million questions a day and they are sometimes really good questions like, "Mom, why don't evergreen branches break with the snow on them?"  At the dinner table the other night, I asked Ike "what did you learn today?" - he says, "I learned about Martin Luther King and how he made a difference. Did you know the dark skinned people used to have to sit in the back of the bus and the light skinned people in the front. Can you believe it? But, Martin Luther King changed all that!" Harcourt and I just looked at each other and smiled. He is taking Spanish and he constantly sings Spanish songs or mixes Spanish words in with his conversation, we are hoping to get him in some more classes outside of school. He also takes Yoga at school and the thought of Ike doing yoga makes me laugh because he has a hard time being still but the teacher said he is great in class and he can do the moves so well!!

Ike loves the snow, skiing, Vermont and anything associated with the white stuff! Although he does often ask if we can move to Hawaii or California :)  On our annual voyage to Sugarbush this year, he made it 4 full days with the big boys as I was back at the condo managing Legare. I think one day it was 10 degrees and we told him it was going to be so cold and tried to get him to cave in but he didn't and Harcourt said he didn't complain once. He took a ski lesson one day and really enjoyed it - the instructor said he was very impressed with what Ike could do. We have 2 more Vermont trips coming up soon and he is so excited to get back out there! Yesterday, we had a small snow event that turned into slush but he jumped out of bed and couldn’t wait to get his boots on to frolic around in the snow.

Ike is still the sweetest boy and loves his family so much.  However, as anticipated, his patience occasionally wears a little thin for Legare when he comes to take or destroy what Ike is playing with (legos, blocks etc) but he is amazingly cool about it and adapted his playing style accordingly.   He knows Legare so well and whenever Legare starts to cry Ike will shout "Peek-a-boo! Where's Ike?!" in the hopes of getting him to laugh :) At night after bath, they love to play on Ike's bed and it all ends with them in their pjs snuggling and hugging each other. Watching their interactions makes my heart melt and puts all the hard work of parenting 2 right into perspective!

These are from 4th of July weekend but somehow I missed them for the blog. Ike and Molly were having a good time on the platform of the Shelter. Ike has progressed quite a bit since then too and this weekend Harcourt was in the water and Ike was jumping in on his own and having a ball.

Ike and I had a GREAT trip to Charleston today. He was an angel and I honestly couldn't have asked for him to be better. The first flight he slept almost the entire flight and the second flight he sat like a trooper in an empty seat next to me happily watching a dvd and playing with his books. All thanks to CARES, my friend Ashleigh bought if for her Thanksgiving travels and kindly let me borrow it for our trip - it was invented by a Grandmother of 9 and it honestly is the coolest thing! Ike thought he was in the car seat - but without schlepping the seat! We had visitors this afternoon from my little neices who were extremely excited to play with Baby Ike. Taylor's first comment was "AH- he walks"! It is going to be a fun week and we can't wait for Harcourt to arrive on Saturday!

1 Year Stats

We took Ike to the pediatrician today for his 1 yr check-up and he is doing great! Unlike his mother (I was so small I was never on the stupid charts!), he is nicely riding the "curve" on the growth chart. He wasn't too happy about the 4 shots. In our dr office, the dr gives the shots and he is so funny that as soon as the last shot was done he started juggling tennis balls to distract Ike from the pain- got to love it!

Birthday Celebration

On Ike's birthday we had a super fun family celebration. Mom & Dad, Kyle, Bing & Robert and Maggie (she is a part of our family and Ike's best buddy) all came over to celebrate. Ike got in a good afternoon nap so he thoroughly enjoyed himself :-) The day was a bit emotional for me to realize we made it through the first year of our first child. In some ways, it was a long year.... and in other ways it is mind boggling to think he was a newborn a year ago and now he is walking and looks like a little boy. We are very lucky to have a happy and healthy son and we look forward to the next year! Click here for more pics.

I finally got a clip of him walking this morning... it's not the best but you get the idea. You can see that he loves cars and things with wheels as all little boys do! He is pretty proud of himself and we are proud too. We are really enjoying our time with him this long holiday weekend!

This week has been like a bubble burst... all of a sudden Ike is ramping up for his 1 year celebration. The week started out with him having a fever bug (which he passed to Mama) and he got to spend 2 days home with Maggie so maybe she started the magic. He started pointing at things that he wants and makes an enthusiastic response when you ask him if he wants something (that is if he wants it). Then on Friday at school before I left he was playing and he took 3 steps to his favorite Ms Terry and we all shouted and cheered! I heard that after I left he took 4 steps to Ms Terry again! He still only does it on a whim but we know he can do it. Then I was sick on Sat night so he and Harcourt had quite an evening. The full report was he started to teach Ike how to feed himself with a spoon. They were also looking at pictures of animals in a book and Ike was pointing to the live versions (doggie and kitty cat) in the house.

We had a nice weekend which included Ike's first offical playdate with his friend Hunter from school and by the end the boys were down to their onesies and chasing each other around the house! This afternoon we went for a crisp hike in the woods across from our house with the Mulligans and Steffens.

Note from Mama

So since this blog is a quasi baby book for Ike I had to run to the computer to do a quick posting. I just had the most wonderful 30 mins with Ike! I went to put him down for an afternoon nap and it started business as usual with a fully animated reading of Moo Baa Lalala (a must before each nap and bedtime), and then a little quiet time in the rocking chair. During the quiet time, he was 75% tired and 25% slap happy so when I launched into Twinkle Twinkle he started pulling at my lips and nose and giggling. I tried for a few minutes to completely ignore him and restrain my giggles but I couldn't do it- I burst into laughter and he became hysterical! We spent the last 15 mins laughing so hard at each other that we both had tears!!! Then, he was so tired he grabbed his blankie and passed out but not without me sitting in the chair thinking about how much I love him and what a cool little person he is becoming. Speaking of blankies.... Ike got his blankie (on right) as a baby gift from my dear friend Susanne and it has become his best friend. Blankie has a little puppy dog sewn onto the 12" x 12" chenille blanket and it is so sweet. It is there in good times and bad and keeps him company in his crib at school and home. Blankie is so well loved that I was getting concerned that he might not hold up for the long haul so my Mom shipped us out a new blankie who is now in training! Ike does know the difference but we think he has accepted the newest member of the family :-)

With Harcourt unfortunately out of town on business, I got Ike suited up in his monkey suit and we went to town in his beep beep car and met up with James, Julie, Hayden & Nola and Whitney, Matt & Molly for the town trick or treat. It is such a cool thing...all the stores on the Green do a trick or treat hour from 5-6 for all the kids which is followed by a very short parade and then everyone goes home to trick or treat. It was perfect for the little kids to get a taste of Halloween! Ike was a little tired but he sat in his car for over an hour (with both hands on the wheel!!) while we toured around town and seemed to love his outfit not even touching the monkey hood. Coming home from a nice fall hike in the woods across from our house.

Ok, 1 month until he is 1 whole year old.. AHH! Time is really flying!! This month Ike has started walking while pushing his car or walker toys and he is a cruiser extraordinaire. Last weekend he took his first step (that Harcourt and I witnessed) and it was so cool! He needs a little confidence and better skills at standing balanced and then he will be off like a shot.

He is learning new tricks ... he gives you a high 5 or 10 and enjoys the "drop game" = "I drop, I laugh, you pick it up, we do it again!" He still has 7 teeth (4 top, 3 bottom) and he is eating more variety and I think cheese tops the list including the all american favorite, grilled cheese.

We are already looking forward to celebrating his 1st birthday! Mom and Dad are coming to town and Dean will come up for the weekend. Can't wait!!!!

Well the alarm clocks are no longer in use at our house anymore. Lately Ike has been the early bird around our house rising around 5:30am (sometimes he sleeps past 6) and he doesn't seem to care that it is pitch dark until close to 7! We are happy for our programmed coffee maker that makes coffee for us each morning because there is little time to wake up as Ike is ready to play!!! This morning I caught him on camera pushing his walker as he practices his walking skills... still a ways to go but he is determined and gets where he wants regardless.

On the weekends we usually hit the town by 7:30 for a cruise around the Green in his car.

We decided last night that we were in a crisis situation in the home. I was in the kitchen cooking dinner when all of a sudden I hear some commotion and I turn around and Harcourt is taking Ike for a ride around the downstairs in the Pampers box. Of course, Ike loved it but we decided it was necessary for some early birthday presents. Today I did some research by calling my friend Ashleigh for the hot toy scoop and then went off to the consignment store and Babies R' Us and came back armed and ready for fun! We had a blast!!! I can see why people get so crazy spoiling their kids - that ear to ear smile makes it worth every penny.

Pine Straw Picnic

We certainly enjoyed the warm sunshine and fall atmosphere today at a big picnic at Chattfield Hollow Park. With a nice breeze, it was literally raining pine straw at the picnic spot by the lake and the setting could not have been more perfect. The Steffens organized and the Streeters, Fittons, Mulligans, Tuttles, Raymonds, Petras, James & Nola, Whitney & Molly and Stacey were there and all the kids were all running (at least all the ones that could run) full steam and having a blast. The dogs got to come and enjoyed a good swim in the lake. I think everyone will sleep well tonight and we look forward to the next gathering. More pictures.

Ike likes to swing CRAZY high in the swing in the backyard! (and he is not scared at all)

Harcourt does a great trick with the 1 hand balancing act. I am pretty sure that Ike thinks Harcourt is his own personal amusement park.

10 Months

Ike is 10 mos old and we can't believe we are 2 mos shy of his first birthday. He is enjoying life more and taking in so much more each day. He is cruising on the furniture and crawling at a good clip... he has stood up with no hands for only a few seconds but of course pulls up to stand on anything he can. He makes lots of noise/noises and the other day when we were in Walmart at 7am I was sure you could hear him squealing and carrying on from one end of the store to the other. He learned to clap this month and is laughing so much more. He is up to 7 on the teeth count: 4 on top and 3 on the bottom and this month he discovered grilled cheese! As usual, we take him on adventures all time. Last weekend we took the Shelter to Hamburg Cove up the CT River for a picnic lunch with Kyle, Robert and Bing.
He is practicing driving like Daddy and Bing!

He is just starting to sit still long enough to see a few pictures in his truck book.He always plays with the dog bowls and enjoys the noise they make when he pushes them all over the kitchen floor.
