Yummmmm...
Sunday, April 27, 2008
It was a low key weekend here. The sun was out yesterday but today was cold and rainy. Ike had a fever most of the weekend but finally rebounded just in time to make the Sunday runs with me to Walmart, Big Y and Walgreens. He was so good that I told him we would go and get a treat! I took him to Ashley's Ice Cream for a frozen yogurt and he liked it ... A LOT! He is a little man of few real words but he knows when to say "yea" and "mmmm". My Mom used to always take us for ice cream and "treats" as kids so it was so fun to finally start that tradition with Ike.
Please pardon the drool at the end :-)

Someone sent me this pic of a stowaway monkey that climbed his way to the top of this sailboat rig. I wonder how they got him down...

Plastic Safety - PLEASE READ
Friday, April 18, 2008
About 2 weeks ago, the Today Show's Dr. Nancy Synderman tackled the plastic safety issue with a report that encouraged viewers to avoid using certain plastics. Click here to see the 4/8 interview and follow-up 4/10 interview. This interview got my attention because of the ever present role of plastic in baby bottles and sippy cups in my life and the lives of my friends and family. She makes the point that you can't go back on what is done but now is the time to change our habits! There are safer alternatives but they take a little research - see chart above and this blog has cool info. The point of her interviews is that consumers should avoid Bisphenol A, Ployvinyl chloride (PVC), Polystyrene (PS) and polycarbonate containers (i.e. Nalgene bottles!). In the 4/10 interview, Dr. Snyderman did clarify that PVC and PS do not contain Bisphenol A. But, she added that PVC and PS contain "other chemicals like polyvinyl chloride that we know in rat studies can be linked to cancers and other problems." She suggested that consumers with questions about plastic safety check http://www.iatp.org/ which she described as an "independent organization."
So please, be smart! Take the time to go through your pantry, cupboards and refridgerator to check your plastics.

Breakfast Flight
Sunday, April 13, 2008
This morning we (the whole family) hopped into Peter's plane for a breakfast run to Block Island with Henry and Peter. The airport has a tiny diner with hot coffee and delicious breakfast! Ike has lots to learn from Henry and even though they don't chat we can only imagine what they think about their Sunday morning activities. Spring is finally arriving and the grass is turning green and the forsythia is blooming. Being on Block really made it feel like Summer is near. Click for more pics.

Gator Buds
Sunday, April 06, 2008
Ike and I had a fun afternoon over at Peter and Henry's house. Henry has this great John Deere Gator and he was happy to show Ike his driving skills around the yard. It was fun to see the two of them as Peter and I have logged a lot of miles with similar enthusiasm.

Powerful Stuff- Update
An update on a previous post of mine about the story of Nate & Tricia. Nate received the best birthday present ever yesterday, Tricia received new lungs! Their little daughter Gwyneth is also doing great- breathing on her own and gained over 1/2 lb last week. Hopefully, Tricia's body will accept the new lungs and she will have a speedy recovery. I tell you that watching their journey through Nate's blog makes me appreciate life each & every day.
Organ donation is the most powerful gift anyone can give. Let this be a reminder to update your drivers license and/or tell your loved ones you wish to donate your organs. (click here to print a family notification card)
