HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Today was Ike's 2nd birthday and we weren't sure if he really got it but when he finally got his choo choo he started to get VERY into it. He really went crazy! To preface the train fixation, we often take Ike to our amazing new library where they have a Thomas the Train table and he gets so excited and loves to play with it. We also have several train books and Thomas sticker books to aid in the obsession- that is what parents are for right! So, it was an easy decision to get Ike a train table for his birthday.

It was a beautiful day and we fit in lots of fun- he helped me make cupcakes in the morning and while I had a shoot he rode tractors and the Polaris with Daddy, Boppy and Dana (Dana and Ike are great buddies now and he has enjoyed her visit from Oregon). After a good nap, we did some quick family pictures and then we let the celebration begin. The pictures really explain the rest from here.

Flashback to 2006

I stumbled upon these pics of our car ride home from the hospital the other day and thought it would be fitting to put them up on his birthday. I am confident to say now that 2 yrs ago, when we brought Ike home, we had little idea what we were doing or what we were getting into! But, he has been the best gift given to Harcourt and I and we think we are doing a good job bringing him up and we can't wait to see what his 3rd year will bring!

We had a great Thanksgiving! The day started out with the annual Turkey Trot in Madison- stay tuned for post on that later today. We headed to the Johnson's house later in the day for the family, food and fun. This year, Ike was the only "little" kid (under 27!) but he was great- he even sat with us at the table for a good long while- he liked to the toasts and "cheers" the best. I missed my family today but Mom, Dad and Dean are coming for a visit next week. It was a great day to be thankful!The beautiful setting....

We think watching Ike learn to talk is so amazing! He is currently in a vocabulary explosion and just yesterday there were 5 new words: cooking (cookin), sleeping (sleepen), lasagna (asanga), floor and Colin. His favorite word is probably "why?" which always leads to some good conversation. We are looking forward to his 2nd birthday next Saturday!

Ike is changing so much these days and growing into a real little boy- he is starting to do more imaginative play with his toys and he even whispers secrets! The other day I heard him saying to his little plastic John Deere farmer "ride?!" and he then proceeded to open the door to his diecast red Corvette (thanks to Aunt Kelly), put the farmer inside, shut the door and take him for a tour of the living room. I nearly fell over. Then, my favorite thing is that he learned how to whisper so so soft....I don't know what it is but there is something to sweet and innocent about an almost 2 year old whispering words.

Sorry for the large post but as I mentioned in my earlier post, Halloween is my new favorite holiday. Ike was a dragon and he loved his costume! We started by meeting our friends for a trick or treat around the shops in town which was very popular this year as it is perfect for the little ones. It was hard to believe that last year Ike was riding around in the same car because he didn't walk yet! We then buckled our dragon into the carseat and went to Kyle & Bings for Ike's first trick or treat (& cocktail for Mom & Dad) and he loved it except he preferred not to put the candy in the pumpkin. Then we went to Harcourt's Aunt's house, the Stockmann's and ended at the Smith's for a driveway campfire! Ike's favorite candy was the "pop pop" aka tootsie pop but he also enjoyed a Butterfinger and said "yum". (note: with no close neighbors we don't get any trick or treaters at our house). We had a great time taking Ike around and he stayed in costume until the bitter end and cried when we took it off at home so it now resides in the toy closet for future fun. We are already looking forward to next year! More pics here.

Halloween was sooo much fun- definitely my new favorite holiday. Tons of chores to do today so can't do a full posting but here are just a few as a tease.
